The English defender has continued to excel for Palace this season a summer transfer to Anfield falling through. As his deal due to run out in the summer, January is the London club's last chance to obtain a transfer fee for their captain. Numerous top sides, including City and several continental powerhouses like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to be interested. Juventus are desperate to secure the youngster to a lengthy agreement but face a battle to keep one of Europe's most promising young talents.

This much-admired Dutch midfielder has drawn comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. Following starring at the U19 Euros, Smit has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team.
