Her Royal Highness's Yearly Yuletide Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.

The 1,600 guests will hear a selection of carols, music and readings from actors such as award-winning actors.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her initial major address in two years, in which she talked about recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the former royal to broaden opportunities for instrumental training.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the charity, with grants helping towards equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in the concert.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include nine-year-old Saphia Turner, winner of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
